Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa

Dr. Alfredo Quiñones -Hinojosa, known by his patients as Dr. Q, received his undergraduate from UC Berkeley and earned his medical degree from Harvard with Honors. He did his residency at the University of California San Francisco, and currently works at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. His titles include Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery, Associate Professor of Oncology, Director of the Brain Tumor Surgery Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and Director of the Pituitary Surgery Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Q also oversees two labs in his efforts to discover the ability of stem cells to fight brain cancer. In his free time Dr. Q enjoys mentoring, training for his half-marathon fund raiser run, and spending time with his wife and three kids.

Neurosurgery Residents

Shaan Raza
Dr. Raza received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2006 and is currently a Resident in the Department of Neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
His clinical interests include neuro-oncology and, specifically, approaches to skull base tumors. Dr. Raza’s current research interests include developing/assessing new surgical techniques through the department’s skull base/microsurgery laboratory, and assessing surgical outcome measures. In the Brain Tumor Stem Cell lab, Dr. Raza's research focuses on brain metastases.

Kaisorn Chaichana

Kaisorn Chaichana, currently a neurosurgery resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, is completing a year-long research fellowship funded by the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA). Kaisorn received his B.S. in 2003 from the University of Utah and majored in Biology. Kaisorn joined the Brain Tumor Stem Cell Lab in June 2006. He is interested in studying the effects of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the migration of normal neural stem cell and tumor stem cell migration. In addition, he is trying to determine the phenotype of the invading brain tumor cells that make brain tumors resistant to treatment.

Dr Tomas Garzon-Muvdi

Dr Garzon received his M.D. in June 2006 from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi School of Medicine in México. He also obtained a Master of Science in August 2008 from Wright State University with focus on Neuroscience and Biophysics. Tomas is currently funded through the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund Post-Doctoral Fellowship Grant. His work focuses on the mechanisms that human brain tumor stem cells and neural stem cells use to migrate and how different factors affect this process. He is now a first year Neurosurgery resident at Hopkins.

Physician Assistant

Jill Anderson

Jill received her Physician Assistant degree from St. Francis University. After graduating from the Saint Francis University PA program, she also earned a Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies with an emphasis in Neurosurgery through The University of Nebraska. As Dr. Quinones’ Physician Assistant, Jill manages his clinical practice. This includes seeing patient’s in clinic, pre- and post-operatively, new and follow up patients. She is the main contact for patients with any questions regarding their care. Jill has been working in Neurosurgery for over 8 years, the last 4 years with Dr. Quinones.

Senior Administrative Coordinator

Colleen Hickson

Colleen has been part of the Q Team since 2009, working as Dr. Q’s Senior Administrative Coordinator. In part, she assists with research grants, philanthropic efforts, publications and maintaining his busy calendar. Colleen graduated from Towson University in 2001, where she majored in Psychology. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her friends and family, especially her young children.

Caitlin Rogers

Caitlin grew up in Delaware and received her B.S in English Literature and Creative Writing from Towson University in 2007. On the job, she is responsible for editing Dr. Q’s books, papers and other publications. Off the job, she enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and daughter, writing, and crafting.
